Response # 4 Mood.

Crank Part 1 by Nyah Ramirez-Pineda

I block my ears trying to not hear my older sister scream like a crank was eating her torso and stretching her soft skin. You would think since she's the oldest she has everything under control but she's turning insane. Might as well be a crank. Her screaming in a classroom where the cranks can hear is not helping either.

"God! Cora make Lydia stop!" Teresa yell through Lydia's scream. Still blocking my ears I crawl to her making sure the cranks didn't see me through the windows and sat beside her. I slowly put down my hands trying to handle her screaming. Once I touch her shoulders she stop but the sound of nails scratching the door made the three of us make our blood cold or at least mine did.

"Damn it... We have to get out of this school." Teresa whisper to us. I turn to my sister seeing her pale skin and her once beautiful strawberry blonde hair now all tangled and some bald spots here and there. Her nails were ripped off and dark circles around her eyes. She looks like a crank, I hate this! Hate it! Hate it! No one who wasn't a scientist or a genius knew how this virus started but next thing you know they are craving flesh and black liquid coming from their ears, mouth, and nose. If one bites you, you go nuts. You'll yell that your a crank going crazy asking people to pull the trigger.

"You know what...we should put her out of her misery." Teresa says and pulls out her gun. Like hell! I tackle her to the floor trying to get the gun but kick me in the face and sending me back to the floor. I groan in pain as I rub my jaw. Lydia did nothing but watch what happen as she body shakes like chihuahua. She started acting like this since last week, she didn't get bitten... We met Teresa when the virus barely happen. She was in the military and she found out about because... Well her first crank she had shot was her son.

"Please! Don't do this! She'll get better! She's just shock a bit. I saw some water back there in the main office maybe we can out run them and get it! We need the water!" I said trying to stall her. Teresa hasn't been the same either, after she shot her five year old boy we ran into some family who's four year old daughter was sick or bitten but they didn't know that would turn her to a crank. They make creaking noises and it scares the hell out of me.  Before the daughter turn to a crank she pull the gun and aim it at her head and pulled the trigger.Lydia was well back then and wanted us to leave but where would we go? We didn't know how to fight, and Teresa was out best chance at surviving. Teresa look at the ceiling before giving a sigh and nods.

"Fine whatever. I'll go." She says and grabs her gun.

"I'll help you." I say and grab my pocket knife. As I was about to head towards the door I was grab by the collar and I spun around.

"You? Your only twelve." She says and let out a scoff. The whole virus started when my sister was five, our family were living in a small community run by the military before it was overrun and then my parents had me. Told me the reality. It still surprise me how Lydia still never knew how to fight. Only thing to protect me is this small knife.

"I survive this long... I'm pretty sure I can survive this." I said. A twelve year old should be gospsing with their friends or talk about boys or put makeup on but instead I'm here with cranks. I can feel my heart speed it's pace and sweat sliding down my face. I lick my lips tasting the salty taste. Teresa slowly nods and opens the door. As soon as she did two cranks came charging at us. A gun shot went off and one came charging at me. I kick it in the shin and saw it fall and I took the chance and drive the blade to the head. I struggle to get the knife out and once I did I tumble down.

"Quit playing! Come on!" Teresa nag at me. I got up and quickly ran to Lydia.

"I'll be back." I said but she said nothing but played with her fingers. I said nothing else and got up and left. As we walk through the hallways we could only hear the echoes of the cranks... I don't know what's more scarier, cranks chasing us or walking through this hallway and only hear the echoes but not the cranks.

"HELP ME HELP ME! IM A CRANK! KILL ME KILL ME!!!!" A figure appear, it was girl. I took a step back even though she's harmless. She won't do anything, she's not violent yet. Bang! I jump at bit at the sound of it. Teresa never shows remorse when she shoots cranks... She looks at the body and then carries on like if that didn't happen. I sigh and follow her leaving the body behind.

Luckily we didn't crash into any cranks after that one, once we made to the office I grab the jugs of water. It's been a few days without water and it's killing me. I turn around seeing Teresa holding a picture frame. I step forward and saw a women and boy in the picture all smiling. I look up and saw a banner that said the same of this school. Jamesworkmen Middle School... All of a sudden I heard Teresa soft sob.

"I'm sorry about your son.." I said, she only told us about him when she was drunk. She told us how she had him when she was fifteen... Now here she is, thirty two. Teresa let out a chuckle.

"Your sorry? Why? This is my fault.." She whispers. What? How can this be her fault?

"What are you taking about?" I ask taking a step closer.

"I-I know how this happen. The facility was suppose to make a new disease for a new weapon...I-I brought my son there as a tour and.. Next thing I knew he screams. There a scratch on him but I thought it was glass.. I still don't know how he got scratch. Maybe he wander off or mess with the tubes with the disease. We were planning to test it on humans and..m-my son was the first. He wasn't himself. He bit two people. I put him down." She says and falls to the floor crying. Her son... Was the first crank.  All for a disease?! A weapon?! Rage flows through my body and I clench my jaws and fists. Not because I'm mad at her I'm mad at the geniuses who thought this was a good idea! I turn around taking deep breaths. Okay we have to get back to Lydia. Bang!

The End Of Crank Part 1.
