Response # 3 Characterization

The three main characters, La Guera, Payasa, and Marin in the three stories have many things in common. Let's start with their appearance, they have teased hair, wear tight clothes, and cover their faces with makeup. They dress like those kind of girls that make parents all worry and on edge of their child hang out with those kind of girls. They also speak with attitude, Priscilla calls herself La Guera and if anyone calls her Priscilla she'll correct them with attitude. Now Payasa her response is "Oh you'll get over it.. Eventually." When something bad happens, Marin give advice to younger girls advice on how to get boys. They all speak in attuide. Marin doesn't care if boys compliment and ignores him her much like Payasa who acts like she doesn't care. When La Guera does something bad at first you would think she's going to say something like she regrets it but no, she'll say something worse and does hesitate. The three girls also do stuff that their parents tell them not to do. La Guera fights and steals sweets, makeup, and even a boyfriend. Payasa sniffs spray cans to get high, flash in public, and fights. Marin sells Avon and sometimes she is a prostuite. They also get reactions from others to the ones close to them. La Guera's friends started to stay away from her when she started going overboard on stealing, also funny looks from her cousin, and a suspicious look form the cash register guy because of her looks. Payasa's older brothers would abuse her if she lost a fight and one would not do anything just let her be Payasa. Girls in Marin's neighborhood look up to her as a idol and boys describe her green eyes as green apples or always complimenting her. They have similar motivation. They want love, La Guera wants more sweetness and love and rainbow and blue sky to fill her empty heart. Payasa just want to be love by her ex boyfriend and brothers. As for Marin even though she had boyfriend in Pureto Rico she wanted handsome and rich man to pick her up and take her away far far away.

The three girls are archetypes because they fit in those pretty hot girls who just want to have a happy ending. And sometimes they don't get there ending and lose their chances. La Teri shook all the sweetness and makeup and the colorful things out of La Guera when they were fighting. Priscilla was no more. Payasa lost her boyfriend because how she acted and she shut everyone out, harming her self and puts herself in a hospital. And Markn hasn't got her rich and handsome man to sweep her off her feet. She waited and waited but no man came for her. I would say they were like from the movies where the pretty girls who pretended to be someone else and in the end they don't get their happy ending. I think author is suggesting this is because there are many girls back then and some now who would act like these three girls and think this is what will get what they want but it's not. It's just going to take one back further from it.

My opinion in all of this is that these girls really have low self esteem. I feel like they have no respect for themselves. La Guera shouldn't be wearing heavy makeup and start fights and steal in 7th grade. Payasa shouldn't be getting high in spray cans and flash in public. Marin shouldn't be looking for a handsome fish guy when she has boyfriend, she should be loyal to him. Honestly these girls sicken me and they don't really think no! They are to busy starting fights, sniffing cans, and dancing for men! Hopefully people will read this and any girls who are reading this... You are beautiful just the way you are. Don't think otherwise. You can be better than these girls.
